چکیده

Based on the t-J model, it is shown that a hole moving on an antiferromagnetic spin background always induces a phase-string effect. Such a previously unnoticed phase string is revealed by explicitly tracking the Marshall sign and can be rigorously shown to be nonrepairable at low energy. Its quantum interference can drastically modify the long-wavelength behavior of the doped hole, leading to a vanishing spectral weight Z at the ground-state energy. Implication for finite doping is also discussed. [S0031-9007(96)01864-9]

Bosonic Resonating-Valence-Bond Description of a Doped Antiferromagnet

We propose a theory for a doped antiferromagnet based on the bosonic resonating-valence-bond (RVB) description incorporating the phase string effect. Both antiferromagnetic and superconducting phase transitions occur naturally inside such a bosonic RVB phase. Two distinct metallic regions— underdoping and optimum doping—are also found to be a logical consequence; their unique features explain t...

Understanding HTS cuprates based on the phase string theory of doped antiferromagnet

We present a self-consistent RVB theory which unifies the metallic (superconducting) phase with the half-filling antiferromagnetic (AF) phase. Two crucial factors in this theory include the RVB condensation which controls short-range AF spin correlations and the phase string effect introduced by hole hopping as a key doping effect. We discuss both the uniform and non-uniform mean-field solution...

Vanishing Spectral Weight in a One-hole-doped Antiferromagnet: a Rigorous Result Typeset Using Revt E X

By explicitly tracking the Marshall sign, a phase string induced by hopping is revealed in the one-hole-doped t−J model. It is rigorously shown that such a phase string cannot be eliminated through low-lying spin excitations, and it either causes the spectral weight Z = 0, or leads to the localization of the doped hole. Implications for finite doping are also discussed. 71.27.+a, 74.20.Mn, 75.1...

Marshall sign and the doped t − J model Abstract Marshall sign as a sole source of sign problem hidden in an antiferromagnet is explored under doping. By tracking the Marshall sign, a zero spectral weight Z is revealed in the doped antiferromagnetic system. Z = 0 is caused by a phase string induced by the " bare " hole. By eliminating such a phase string through nonlocal transformations, a non-...

Effect of interlayer interactions and lattice distortions on the magnetic ground state and spin dynamics of a geometrically frustrated triangular-lattice antiferromagnet

We investigate the effects of interlayer interactions and lattice distortions on the noncollinear ground state and spin dynamics of a geometrically frustrated triangular-lattice antiferromagnet with implications for the multiferroic phase of doped CuFeO2, where both lattice distortions and anisotropy introduce anharmonic components into the spin ground state. In contrast to the single turn angl...
